- In the View section, select an appropriate list view from the drop-down list to go directly to that list page, or click Create New View to define your own custom list view. List views let you display a list of records that match specific criteria.
- In the Recent section, select an item from the drop-down list on the right to display a brief list of the top records matching that criteria. The choices are listed in the table that follows.
- From the list, you can click any item number or name to go directly to its detail.
- Click New to create a new item master.

The Items tab allows you to manage your item masters. An item master The record of a product or a service which is to be sold and/or stocked in a warehouse. An item master might also be referred to as a Stock Keeping Unit (SKU). is a record of a product or service that your company holds in inventory Stock. Products or services that are available to buy or items that form part of a product or service. Where the item is tangible such as hardware, that item may be held in a warehouse as stock, or ordered directly from a supplier when a customer places an order.. Item masters may be referred to as Stock Keeping Units (SKU Stock Keeping Unit. A product or service that your company holds in inventory. In FinancialForce SCM this is referred to as an item master.s) in other systems. You can manage tangible items such as products and intangible items such as services or licenses using this tab.
From the item tab you can:
- activate or deactivate an item. This determines whether the item can be bought or sold.
- choose whether the item is to be controlled and tracked by lot numbers, unique serial numbers, revision controls, life limit controls and use by dates
- choose whether an item is part of a manufactured kit An item that consists of several other items which must undergo a process before they are turned into the product sold to the customer. For instance, if a table is sold as an assembled item it may consist of a table top and four legs which must be assembled before shipping to the customer. or virtual kit A bundle of items sold to a customer. For instance, a pencil case might be sold as a bundle including the pencil case, several pencils, a sharpener and an eraser.
- switch to the inventory tab to display the available inventory for the selected item.
- select the way in which an inventory item is replenished
- set any lead times for acquiring inventory for the item master
- set quality and safety requirements such as whether the item contains hazardous material and whether it needs to be inspected before it is bought or sold.
- enter the requirements for shipping the item such as dimensions of the box, number of boxes and the packaging weight
You can also manage a catalogue of items that make up a product including items from external suppliers.
Items can be grouped together as part of a manufactured kit or virtual kit (kit created on order time)
From an Item Master record you can choose to view the available inventory for that record on the Inventory tab directly without having to search for it.
You organization may choose different behavior for items depending on whether they are tangible such as hardware or intangible such as software or a service.
You can allocate inventory to customer orders using methods such as First In First Out (FIFO First Item Fulfils Order. A way in which items in the inventory can be allocated to an order. In this method, the first item to arrive in the inventory is the first item used to fulfil an order.) and Hard Allocation Sold but not yet shipped. .
Reorder Criteria
The Reorder Criteria related list contains the records that determine how the item is to be reordered. You can create reorder criteria that applies to specific warehouses.
Up Sell Cross Sell
The Up Sell Cross Sell related list contains records of items that are to be offered for sale when the parent item is offered for sale. Examples of such items may include batteries for a child's toy.
Cycle Count
The Cycle Count related list contains records of stock taking activities for the item master.
Item Options
The Item Options related list contains details of items that are to be offered as options when the item is sold.
Bills of Material
When the item master is a kit or a virtual kit, the bills of material related list contains a list of the component items that make up the item master.
Customer Item Number Reference
The customer item number reference related list contains records of your customer's item numbers and descriptions for the item master. For instance, you customers may all have different descriptions and part numbers for the item. You can use this list to quickly identify an item where a regular customer frequently orders that item.
Alternate Items
You can enter alternative items for the product and determine the level to which they are interchangeable. For instance, if the item is a soft toy, an alternative item might be a teddy bear. If a customer orders a soft toy, it would be acceptable to give them a teddy bear, but if the customer orders a teddy bear and the item is a puppy, this would not be acceptable. When there are several alternatives, you can choose a selection order for the alternate items when the item master is not available.
Manufacturer Part Number Reference
The Manufacturer Part Number Reference related list contains details of each OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer part number and description for the item master.
Warranty Sell Side
The Warranty Sell Side related list contains the details of warranty that can be sold with the item.
Supplier Catalogue Items
The Supplier Catalogue related list contains details the item catalogue information for each supplier that supplies the item.
Production Orders
The production orders related list shows the production orders for the item master. This is used when the item is a manufactured kit and requires assembly before the item can be shipped to a customer.
