Multi-Level Budgets

You can now create bottom-up multi-level budgets in Planning with multiple currencies.

Notes:
  • The corporate currency must be the same for all budget levels.
  • Budget levels are assigned when created. You must assign the correct level to the budget when creating it. If you want to change the level of a budget, you must delete it and create it again.

Best Practice

1. Base Budget - Level One

Create the base budget. This is Budget Level One. It must be created in the corporate currency and all data will be shown in the corporate currency. It reflects the sum of the child budgets at Levels Two and Three. You can add and edit budget lines, but in order to modify level one, you must modify the child budgets directly. The Update Exchange Rate button and the Show Corporate and Company button are disabled at this level.

2. Parent Budgets - Level Two

Create the parent budgets. This is Budget Level Two. At this level, the company currency and the budget currency must be the same.

3. Child Budgets - Level Three

Create the child budgets. This is Budget Level Three. At this level, you must have the same budget and company currency as its parent budget at Level Two. The Update Exchange Rate button is disabled at this level. You must update the exchange rate at Level Two and it will be applied to all the child budgets. When adding a child budget from Level Two, it will adopt the same exchange rate by default.

Note:

Planning does not currently support multi-level top-down budgets.
