Custom Object Permissions

Tip:

The Accounting managed package includes five predefined custom user profiles: Accountant, Cash Entry Clerk, Sales Invoicing Clerk, Payables Clerk and Read Only.

If you use these custom user profiles, or if you mapped these custom permissions to your own profiles during installation, these settings are already defined.

You should read the "Standard and Custom Object Permissions" section in the Salesforce Help before setting a profile's custom object permissions.

To set custom object permissions manually:

  1. From Setup, click Manage Users | Profiles.
  2. Grant each user profile appropriate basic permissions to create, read, edit and delete records for each custom object.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Repeat for all other relevant profiles.

See the Salesforce Help for more information.

Note:

When testing your configuration settings and data setup, remember to switch to a user with standard accountant-level permissions or equivalent.

Do not test, or otherwise enter data into, the application while logged in as System Administrator. Also note that the same restriction applies to any profile with "Modify All" and "View All" object settings.

Many users will be granted more than the base set of permissions and much of this is common sense. For example, if you want to grant a user the ability to create sales invoices, give them Create permission on the Sales Invoice and Sales Invoice Line Item objects. However, some of the permissions that we recommend are outlined in:

  • The following checklists
  • The sample user profiles contained within the Certinia managed package.

To ensure that company-owned records do not subscribe to access using hierarchies:

  1. From Setup, click Security Controls | Sharing Settings.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Deselect Grant Access Using Hierarchies for each Certinia object where Default Access is "Private".
  4. Click Save.
