Creating Pricing Structures

You can create pricing structures using the Pricing Structures tab, or when creating and editing contract line items on a draft contract.

To create a pricing structure:

  1. Do one of the following:

    • On the Pricing Structures tab, click New or New Pricing Structure.
    • When adding or editing a line item on a contract, click the Pricing Structure field then click +New Pricing Structure. (If a pricing structure is already selected, click to clear the field.)
  2. Enter a meaningful name and description for the pricing structure.
  3. Select the method by which you want to calculate the pricing type for the product:
    • Volume - If the pricing structure is volume-based, the price is applied to all units.
    • Tiered - If the pricing structure is tiered, each quantity break is only applied to the units that exceed its quantity.
  4. Select the method by which you want to calculate the usage bill for the product:
    • Total Usage – Unit prices for a billing period of a contract line item are based on the total quantity of usage from the usage records for that billing period of the contract line item.
    • Per Usage – Unit prices for a billing period of a contract line item are based on the quantity used within each usage record for that billing period of the contract line item.
  5. [Optional] If a Currency field is available, select the currency that applies to the pricing structure. When no currency is set, the pricing structure is either saved with the billing contract's currency if you are creating the pricing structure from the BC Contract Line Items Lightning component, or it is saved with your current user's currency.
  6. Now do either of the following to add quantity breaks to the pricing structure:
    • If you are creating a pricing structure while adding or editing a contract line item using the BC Contract Line Items Lightning component, use the Add button on the current page to create up to 10 quantity breaks.
    • If you are creating a pricing structure in any other way, click Save to save the pricing structure then navigate to the new pricing structure record and use the New button in the Quantity Breaks related list to add the quantity breaks that you want.
  7. For each new quantity break:
    • Enter the lowest quantity to which the unit price applies. Each pricing structure must include a quantity break with a quantity of zero.
    • Enter the price of one item when this quantity break applies. The unit price is applied for quantities from this amount up to the next quantity break if there is one.
  8. When you have added all the quantity breaks you need, save the pricing structure.

If you have created the pricing structure while adding or editing a contract line item, the pricing structure is automatically assigned to the contract line item.
