Creating a Jira Project from a PSA Project

If you use the PSA Direct for Jira to PSA and your PSA projects are mapped to Jira projects, you can create Jira projects from PSA projects.

Notes:

Depending on your requirements, this feature can have different results. Some examples include:

  • If you select Jira Project Type, you must also have to select a Jira Template field. You can choose one of the templates available in Jira to create a Jira Project that uses a predefined template provided by Jira.
  • If you select the Jira Project Template field to create a Jira project cloned from an existing Jira project, you cannot choose the Jira Project Type field.
    • You can choose either a Jira Project Type or a Jira Project Template field. But, you cannot have both selected.
  • You cannot select both the Jira Project Template and Jira Template fields simultaneously.

To create a Jira project from a PSA project:

  1. Navigate to the Projects tab.
  2. Open the project that you want to create a Jira project from.
    • In the Jira Project Key field, enter a unique key for the project in Jira. This is used to prefix Jira issues created for the project. For example, if you want issues for the project to have keys such as PSA-1234, enter PSA.
    • In the Jira Project Type field, select one of the available values, depending on the type of project that you want to create.
  3. Ensure that the Project Name field has a unique value.
  4. Ensure that the resource selected in the Project Manager field is linked to a Jira user. You can confirm this by checking whether the Jira Correlation ID field is populated on the resource.
  5. [Optional] Choose one of the following options:
    • In the Jira Project Template field, select a Jira project to use as a template which is a clone of an already existing Jira project.
    • In the Jira Template field, select a pre-configured Jira template to use as a template.
  6. Select the Sync with Jira checkbox.
  7. Click Save.

The integration automatically creates a Jira project for the PSA project. Once the synchronization finishes, the Jira Correlation ID field populates with the ID of the project in Jira. For more information, see Synchronizing PSA Projects to Jira Projects.

  8. [Optional] Click View Project in Jira from the Jira Project URL field to open the related project in Jira. If an error occurs with the hyperlink that redirects to the related project in Jira, it is recommended to you that you perform step 3 of Upgrade PSA Direct for Jira feature in Feature Console. For more information, see Upgrading PSA Direct for Jira Integration.

If an error occurs during the synchronization, the integration sends you an email notification and creates a Foundations error message. For more information, see Viewing PSA Direct for Jira Error Messages in the Integrations Help.
