Creating a Jira Issue from a PSA Project Task

If you use the PSA Direct for Jira and the field Sync PSA Project Tasks to Jira Issues is enabled, you can create Jira issues from PSA project tasks.

Note:

Ensure that the related project is linked to a Jira project or issue. You can confirm this by checking whether the Jira Correlation ID field is populated on the project.

To create a Jira issue from a PSA project task:

  1. Navigate to the Project Tasks tab or the Gantt view of your project.
  2. Open or create the project task that you want to create a Jira issue from.
    • In the Jira Issue Type Category field, select "Standard Issue Type" or "Sub-task Issue Type", depending on the type of issue you want to create. For example, if you want to create a story in Jira, select "Standard Issue Type".
    • In the Jira Issue Type field, select the type of issue or sub-task that you want to create, for example, "Story". The list displays only the issue types of the selected category. If you select an issue type that is in the list but the same issue type is not available in the Jira project, then the integration sends you an email notification that one or more Jira issue types are not available or invalid.
    • In the Jira Parent Task field, select the Project Task that represents the parent in Jira which is not a sub-task. You must choose a Jira Parent Task that is set to Sync with Jira. If you face issues, contact your administrator.
        Note:

If the PSA Project Task has already been synced with Jira, then you cannot update the Jira Parent Task field. To do so, you must use the Move option in Jira to change the Jira Parent Task.

    • If the project task is a child task, ensure that its parent task is linked to a Jira issue. You can confirm this by checking whether the Jira Correlation ID field is populated on the parent task.
  3. Select the Sync with Jira checkbox.
  4. Click Save.

The integration automatically creates a Jira issue for the project task. Once the synchronization finishes, the Jira Correlation ID field populates with the key of the issue in Jira. For more information, see Synchronizing PSA Project Tasks to Jira Issues .

If an error occurs during the synchronization, the integration sends you an email notification and creates a Foundations error message. For more information, see Viewing PSA Direct for Jira Error Messages .
