AvaTax Code to Product Group Mappings

Avalara AvaTax uses internal tax codes to identify a product and a delivery method. This enables the system to calculate taxes with greater precision. If an Avalara tax code isn't provided when calculating tax, only the origin and destination addresses are used.

The AvaTax Code to Product Group Mapping object enables you to specify an Avalara tax code for items of a specific type that belong to a specific product group. You can specify a different tax code per delivery method. When you define the mappings, Order and Inventory Management automatically applies them to the relevant line-level records, so that your users don't need to manually enter them.

The mappings are applied to the following records:

  • AP voucher lines
  • Credit invoice lines
  • Customer quotation lines
  • Invoice line items
  • Purchase order line items
  • Sales order line items
Warning:

You must ensure that the Item Type picklist on the AvaTax Code to Product Group Mapping object contains the same values as the Item Type picklist on the Item Master object. For example, if you have a custom type named "SaaS" on the Item Master object, you must create the same picklist value for the Item Type field on the AvaTax Code to Product Group Mapping object. For more information on how to add picklist values, see the Salesforce Help.

Note:

You can also define the mappings in Avalara AvaTax instead of in Order and Inventory Management. If you are using Avalara AvaTax with non-Certinia and non-Salesforce applications, it is recommended that you set up the mappings in Avalara AvaTax. For more information, see the Avalara AvaTax Help Center.
