Formatting Reports

The toolbar in Financial Report Builder includes a number of icons, some for utility and some for formatting. You can find a section for each below, including each icon with its own description.

Utility

You can find a selection of icons in your toolbar that do not have a formatting function. These are the utility icons.

Opens the Toolbar Options page in a new tab to help users identify what each icon included in the toolbar is for.
Opens the help video and topic related to the feature on display in a new tab.
Displays options to determine which calculation is performed if a row calculation and a column calculation occupy the same cell. For more information, see Configuring Financial Report Tables.

Formatting

You can configure the design of your report using a range of formatting options.

These options can be applied from individual report configuration tabs, or from the report layout after you have specified your configuration options.

Configuration Tab Formatting

Formatting toolbars are available in the following tabs:

  • Lens Configuration
  • Subtotal Columns
  • Table Configuration
  • Measure Columns

These formatting options, when applied to sections and row formulas, control the appearance of the data displayed in each row. To enable formatting, click each row and apply your required formatting with the formatting toolbar. You can click on a row to see any formatting applied to it.

Tip:

You can use the top-level multi-select checkbox to apply formatting to multiple rows in your report.

Formatting Toolbar

The following formatting options are available from the formatting toolbar, depending on the tab in which it is displayed.

Defines the font face for the text in your selected row.
Defines the font size for the text in your selected row.
Applies or removes bold formatting to the text in your selected row.
Applies or removes italic formatting to the text in your selected row.
Defines the text color in your selected row.
Defines the background color for the text in your selected row.
Defines the spacing between lines of text in your selected row.
Defines the horizontal alignment of text in your selected row.
Applies or removes underlining to the text in your selected row, and defines the underline color. This option is available for Measure columns only.
Applies or removes overlining to the text in your selected row, and defines the overline color. This option is available for Measure columns only.
Repeats the label for a selected grouping in your report. For example, a report might contain the following groupings:

Product

Services

If you repeat the label for the grouping "Sales Revenue" in your report, it displays accordingly:

When selected for text font or size, returns the font to the default of Arial, and the size to the default of ten. This option is available in the Measure Column and Subtotal tab toolbars.

Clears any color selections specified for text background color.

Adds a percentage symbol to indicate percentage values displayed in calculated rows in your reports.
Hides subtotal rows from display in your report if they are single rows.

Report Layout Formatting

You can use the following formatting options to change the appearance of your report after you have configured it. Right-click a column in your report to display the available format options.

Description

Displays a list of all the columns added to your report.
Overrides the subtotal's default behavior and displays the data in the first row for each category.
Select either option to move your selected column one column left or right. You can also reposition your columns by dragging and dropping them to their required location in your report.

Select either option to toggle the order of the lenses in your report by moving them up or down using these arrows.

Note: You can move multiple rows up or down by selecting the rows you want to move, and dragging and dropping your selected rows to where you want to place them.
Select either option to merge your selected column with the column to its left or right.
Hides your selected column from display.
Displays the selected lens's subtotal value on the report table.
Saves changes applied to the presentation of your report layout.
Suppresses row calculations for totals and subtotals.

Resizing Table Height

You can resize your table's height by dragging it upwards to reduce its height, or downwards to increase it. To do so, navigate to the bottom right of your table, and drag the table to your preferred height.

Note:
  • The minimum height is the height of the table header plus one row.
  • The maximum height is the height of the table itself.
