Creating an Estimate

An estimate enables you to estimate custom services work during the sales process. You can then submit the estimate for approval before it becomes a live project. You can create an estimate from an opportunity or from the Services CPQ workspace.

Notes:
  • Your administrator must assign you the SCPQ - Create Estimates permission set to create an estimate.
  • You can only select records that are the same currency as the estimate.
  • Your administrator can disable estimate role skills, estimated expenses, and vendor line items in Services CPQ and specify the field values that are copied. For more information, see Managing Custom Settings from Setup.
  • When creating an estimate from a template, the current version of the source estimate products will be added. The copied estimate products might therefore be different to the instances of the estimate products that are visible on the template. After adding estimate products from a template, if you edit the source estimate product or the instance of the estimate product on the template, your changes will not be reflected on the copied record.

To create an estimate:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the Services CPQ workspace, go to Actions | Create Estimate.
    • On an opportunity record, on the Estimates related list, click New.
  2. Enter a name for the new estimate.
  3. Search for and select the opportunity that the new estimate is for. This is populated automatically if you are creating an estimate from an opportunity record.
  4. Select a start date.
  5. [Optional] Select the Primary checkbox if this estimate is the primary version for this opportunity.
  6. [Optional] Select an estimate to use as a template by searching for an estimate using one or more characters anywhere in the estimate name.

Select the Templates Only checkbox to display only estimate templates. The estimates that are listed are controlled by sharing settings. A maximum of 200 estimates are listed. Estimates without tasks or role requests are not listed. For more information about creating an estimate template, see Creating an Estimate Template.

  7. [Optional] Deselect the Include Skills / Certifications checkbox if you do not want role skill requests to be copied from the selected estimate. The checkbox is selected by default.
  8. Click Create.
