Note:

This topic applies to classic Services Forecasting and does not apply to Enhanced Services Forecasting.

Note: Note
To enter a project forecastA forecast of services revenue entered by a Project Manager or Project Owner for a project or sub-project., you must be the Project Manager or have a permission control on the project with the Forecast Edit checkbox selected.

There are two ways to manually enter a project forecast.

To enter a project forecast on the Services Forecasts page

  1. Click the Forecasts tab to view the Services Forecasts page.
  2. Click the Projects category.
  3. Optionally, select a different entry periodA time period which is open for forecast entry on the Services Forecasts page. or summary periodA time period, for example, a quarter, over which forecasts are entered for multiple entry periods on the Services Forecasts page..
  4. If you want to view supporting business information, click the Show Worksheet Image: Show Worksheet Icon (Star) icon on the project for which you wish to enter a forecast.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. If necessary, use the drop-down list to change which forecast rows can be edited:
    1. To enter a total project forecast, which includes forecasts for contributing sub-projects, select Enter Project Total to make the Total Forecast rows editable (assuming that you have permission to edit them).
    2. To enter a forecast for an individual project (that is, excluding forecasts made by sub-projects) select Enter Project Contribution to make the This Project rows editable (assuming that you have permission to edit them). If configured by your administrator, the forecast categories may be populated with suggested values based on project actuals and backlog records.
  7. Enter values for each forecast category: you can press TAB to move the entry field to the right and SHIFT+TAB to move it to the left.
    Tip: Tip
You must enter a forecast for all forecast categories in order to save. Your administrator can change this behavior using the RequireValues configuration option.
  8. Click Save.

Depending on whether you entered a total or contributing project forecast, the relevant forecast row will automatically calculate revised figures. For example, let's say that the total Commit forecasted amount is 10,000 USD, with sub-project forecasts contributing 1,000 USD. If you enter 12,000 USD for the Commit value on the This Forecast row, the total forecast amount will increase to 13,000 USD after you click Save.

To create a project forecast from the object detail view:

  1. Ensure that the Include In Forecasting checkbox is selected on the project for which you want to create a new forecast.
  2. Click New Forecast in the Forecasts related list of the project detail page.
  3. Complete the fields described in Forecasts Worksheets.
  4. Click Save.

The forecast can now be viewed and edited on the Services Forecasts page, assuming you have permissions.

Warning: Warning
We recommend that you only create one forecast record per entry period for your Project. You should only edit and override project forecasts on the Services Forecasts page to avoid conflicts occurring.
Note: Note
You can view and edit the detail page for a forecast on the Services Forecasts page by clicking the Show Forecast Details Image: Telescope Icon icon.
