Dragging and Stretching Assignments or Resource Requests in the Timeline

In the Timeline, you can both drag or stretch assignments or held resource requests to change start and end time and duration, respectively.

To Drag Assignments or Resource Requests

1. Click and hold the assignment or held resource request bar, then move the assignment to the left or right.
2. Release the mouse button.
3. Save your changes.

Total hours are held constant when dragging assignments or held resource requests.

If the Restrict Editing Past Dates field is selected in the Planners - Project and Planners - Resource custom settings, you cannot drag assignments or resource requests if the start date is already in the past nor can you drag assignments or resource requests prior to the current date.

Zero-hour assignments cannot be dragged.

To Mass Drag Assignments or Resource Requests

1. Expand the view and verify all assignments or held resource requests are visible on the Timeline.
2. Click and hold the project summary bar, then move it to the left or right.
3. Release the mouse button.
4. Save your changes.

If your administrator has enabled this behavior, you can mass-drag assignments in the Project Planner by dragging the assignment summary bar. For details, see the Allow Mass Move Assignments field in the Planners Preferences - Project custom setting.

If you have zero-hour assignments, you cannot mass drag assignments

To Stretch Assignments or Resource Requests

1. Click the edge of the assignment or held resource request bar.
2. Stretch the assignment to the left or right to change the duration of the assignment or held resource request.
3. Save your changes.
