Setting up PSA Resources

Setting up the Resource Record Type

Use the Contacts tab to create new resources (contacts who work on projects). If you have not already done so and you want to use a separate contact record type for PSA, you must first create the Resource record type on the contact object and create a page layout for it.

  1. From Setup, click Customize | Contacts | Page Layouts.
  2. Click Edit next to the Contact Layout.
  3. Add a section to the page layout named Resource Detail with these fields (drag fields from the Page Layout Editor to the page layout):
  4. Add a section to the page layout named Utilization and add the Utilization Target field.
  5. On the Page Layout Editor, click the drop-down arrow on the Save button and select Save As....
  6. Enter Resource in the Page Layout Name field.
  7. Click Save.
  8. From Setup, click Customize | Contacts | Record Types.
  9. Click New.
  10. Enter Resource in the Record Type Label field.
  11. Select the Active checkbox.
  12. In the Enable for Profile column, select the checkboxes of the profiles that you want to enable the Resource record type for.
  13. In the Make Default column select the checkboxes of the profiles that you want to make the Resource record type their default record type.
    Note: Note
You cannot edit the Enable for Profile and Make Default options from a record type after creating it. To edit these settings after creating a record type, you can edit the profile to which you want them to apply. For further information, see the "Specifying Record Types and Page Layout Assignments in the Enhanced Profile User Interface" topic in the Salesforce Help.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Select Apply One Layout to All Profiles and then choose Resource Layout from the drop-down list.
  16. Click Save.

Creating Resources

To create a resource:

  1. Click the Contacts tab.
  2. Click New.
  3. If the Select Contact Record Type page appears, select Resource and click Continue.
  4. Complete the fields described in Resource Fields.
  5. Click Save.
Note: If you use FLSField Level Security to suppress access to the Default Cost Rate field on a Resource for a user who is creating assignments, we recommend you apply the same access restrictions to the Cost Rate Amount field on the Assignment object.
