Resourcing Lightning Component Overview

Notes:

The configuration options available in PSA are not considered when using this Lightning component.

To use this component, you need the appropriate permissions. For more information, see Resource Request Lightning Page and Component Permissions.

To use this component, you must first enable the Resource Request Lightning Page in Feature Console. For more information, see Enabling Resource Request Page Updates. You can also create your own resource request Lightning page and add this component to it. For more information, see PSA Lightning Components.

This component lists the resources with the fields Is Resource and Is Resource Active set to true on their contact records. A maximum of 200 records are returned. Irrespective of any applied filter criteria, assigned or held and suggested resources are automatically sorted and displayed at the top of the list. Other resources returned in the list are sorted by their availability as a percentage.

The following fields display by default as sortable columns in the Resourcing component:

  • Resource Name
  • Status
  • % Availability
  • Role
  • Region
  • Cost Rate
  • External

You cannot remove Resource Name, Status, or % Availability columns.

You need permission to read:

  • All default Resourcing component fields
  • Any custom fields added as columns to the Resourcing component from a Contact object field set

Columns you do not have read permission for are excluded with the exception of Availability and Status. Availability and Status columns display without any data when you do not have permission.

The Candidate Type column is only displayed if the current resource has the Allow Candidates to Self-Nominate checkbox selected and the Candidates Can Self-Nominate for Work custom setting enabled. The self-nominated candidates with the interested status are displayed in this column directly below any of the held and pinned resources in the Resource List. For more information, see Work Opportunities Hub Overview, Managing Self-Nominations for Work Opportunities, and Expressing Interest in Upcoming Work Opportunities.

Tip:

If a self-nominated resource is not visible because a maximum of 200 records can be returned, consider adding a Candidates related list to the page layout. This will show all related resources that have a candidate record, so that you can view a list of all self-nominated resources for the resource request.

Non-filterable fields do not appear as columns. For example, an encrypted field such as Contact Name.

For information about the available fields on this component, see Resourcing Lightning Component Fields.

You can add the following field types as columns in the Resourcing component:

  • Lookup
  • Percentage (%)
  • Text (string)
  • Picklist
  • Number
  • Boolean
  • Currency
  • Date

For more information about adding your own columns, see Column Field Set.

You can unassign a resource from resource request using the Unassign button, located on the resource grid tab on the resource request page. This action also removes the assignment from your resource request, and reverts the resource request to a Draft status. Unassigning resource requests also deletes the related schedule information, as well as any Estimate Versus Actuals records.

Notes:
  • To unassign a resource you must have the relevant permissions within the PSA - Staff Resource Requests permission set assigned to your user profile. Contact your administrator for more information.

Resource Grid

You can view the resource margin in the Margin column on the Resource Grid, found within a resource request record when assigning your resources. This value is displayed as a percentage and allows you to view the financial impact of selecting one resource over another, for the most cost-efficient resourcing decision.

Note:

To view the resource margin you also need to be able to view the bill rate and cost rates, as well as the currency code associated with the resource request. Contact your administrator to review the permissions assigned to your user profile.

The margin calculation also considers the exchange rate, when the currency differs between the prospective resource and the currency of the requested or suggested bill rate on the resource request. In this instance, the currency of the resource request takes priority. This means that the margin calculation will be based on the currency of the resource request.

For example, if you have a resource request whose requested bill rate value is in USD, and a prospective resource whose bill rate is in GBP, the resource’s bill rate will first be automatically exchanged to USD before the rest of the margin calculation is completed.

If the cost rate is set to daily when calculating the margin:

  • The margin is calculated by dividing the daily cost rate for the resource by the standard hours per day on the resource's calendar.
(Bill rate - Daily cost rate / standard hours per day) / bill rate *100

Notes:
  • To view the margin value across different currencies, your org needs to have Use Dated Exchange rates, along with one of the configuration options for exchanging currencies set to True. For more information contact your administrator.
  • Your user profile also needs to have the permission sets associated with viewing the requested and suggested bill rate fields enabled, as well as the currency code field. Contact your administrator for more information.
  • If standard hours are not set on the resource's calendar then the value from the default-work-hours-per-day configuration option in the Resources Configuration Group is used by the calculation. The margin is not calculated if the work calendar standard hours are set to 0.

  • Ensure you have the correct configuration options and permission sets assigned to your user profile to use the daily margin calculation. Contact your administrator for more information.
